They can try their hand at our newly launched Grade 8 Skilled Trades program showcasing Construction and Manufacturing sector skills and careers. They can also take some time to explore the skilled trades in our VR and AR Skilled Trades Simulator Lab.

This tour will highlight the unique partnership between the GECDSB and UBC Local 494, which has been running for 5 years. Participants will get to tour the facility where Grade 11 and 12 students learn in a Union Training Centre with GECDSB Construction, Math and English teachers. Participants will have an opportunity to do hands-on activities related to General Carpentry (403A) and Drywall, Acoustic & Lathing Applicator (451A) led by our instructor and current ECP students. Program facilitators from both the GECDSB and UBC will be on hand to answer logistical questions about the start-up and delivery of the program.

This workshop is designed for teachers who want to see what AI can actually do in real classrooms. The session focuses on powerful, practical AI tools for both teachers and students, with an emphasis on technology education, skilled trades, design thinking, and project-based learning. Participants will explore a curated mix of commonly used AI tools, emerging “grey-area” tools, and truly game-changing applications that are shaping how students and teachers work today. Through live examples and classroom-ready use cases, teachers will see how AI can support lesson design, project planning, ideation, prototyping, and industry-aligned skill development. Whether those tools are formally approved, informally adopted, or already being used by students outside the classroom.
Rather than focusing on theory or fear, this workshop is about possibilities. Teachers will leave with concrete ideas, tools they can use immediately, and a clearer sense of how AI can amplify what students can create and what teachers can manage in busy tech classrooms.

The STEAM RC program aims to engage students in STEM & Tech subjects while building, maintaining and racing radio controlled scale race vehicles and events. In the past this program has provided enhanced opportunities for SHSM students to earn extra-curricular certifications across many skilled trade sectors, such as SPE, numeracy, coding, project management, learning a new technique as well as filling Reach Ahead credentials when visiting local colleges and other community partners. Our track creations have brought together Horticulture, Manufacturing and Welding students to create our outdoor track and features. We have connected high school Construction groups with a local college to build our indoor track features and driver stand while being led by college instructors and following residential building code.

This three-week program, which includes a Reach Ahead credit, engages students through partnerships with community organizations, local businesses, and Skills Ontario. SLP fosters creativity, collaboration, and global connection while supporting Technological Education through experiential learning, digital media creation, coding, STEM challenges, and career exploration. Students build future-ready skills aligned with Broad-Based Technology areas and early exposure to SHSM sectors.

This one hour seminar is about a classroom performance tracking app that was built by a teacher using Artificial Intelligence.
Presented by Cesar Da Silva, he will walk you through the features of the app and how it can be used in your classroom to track and record the performance of your students in various grades and subjects for assessment and evaluation. Cesar will also go over the basic process of how he designed the app using AI, and show the interactions of Gemini with the user, when prompting to make an html based app for use in the classroom. Time permitting, attendees can load the EyeOnMetrics app to their Chrome Browser supported device and learn how to use it.
