A1 - Presenter: Jennifer Burns, Rainbow DSB (General)

This workshop will focus on how to build relationships through cross school, cross curricular and cross panel CCEL projects.  Hear first hand from the teachers who facilitated these projects and how they helped build their communities in and out of school buildings.  

A2 - Presenter: Heather Smith-Hudson, TVDSB (Secondary)

This presentation will be a guided discussion on best practices in SHSM featuring electronic conversation prompts, polling software and Jamboard. Dialogue will centre around what works well with students and what does not work, from a promotion, engagement and capital equipment perspective.

A3 - Presenter: Rachel Allen, TCDSB & OCTE Executive (Elementary)

The concept and skills taught in Grades 6-9 Mathematics are essential for success in post-secondary pathways, particularly in Skilled Trades via Apprenticeship or College pathways. Join us to explore hands-on learning opporutnity embedded in various skilled trades connected to Grades 6-9 Math curriculum. 

A4 - Presenter:  Jody Jakubo, Rainbow DSB  (General)

Participants will hear about how we leveraged SHSM innovation funding to host "maker evenings" to promote the trades to females.  Our focus audience was grade 10 girls who were invited to bring a family member or mentor with them.  From here they had dinner, learned about the sector and created something!  Our hope is that this will build capacity in our trade classes and ultimately increase enrolment in our SHSM Programs. 

A5 - Presenter: Annick Gaudreau, Michelle Filion, CSCDEO (Secondary French)

Présentation d'une programmation pour les élèves de la 8e année à s'initier à différents métiers spécialisés ou ateliers en lien avec les MHS de notre conseil scolaire.  Venez découvrir les détails de logistique pour être en mesure d'offrir ce genre d'activités à vos élèves.

A6 - Presenter: Grant Hutchison TDSB (Computer Technology)

We will explore how the Pi Pico is an ideal Microcontroller for Computer Engineering and Robotics. The coding projects will be using Python and the participants can gain some hands-on experience using the devices in various projects including robotics.

A7 - Presenter: Devin Bright, Appleby College (Tech Design)

This year I invited our 800 students and 100 staff to 3D print (almost) whatever they wanted!  Through training, a digital badging program, technological design courses, and student leaders, I navigated the challenges of 3D printing as a achool-wide service. In this session I reflect on the lessons I've learned and share best practices developed through this experience.  

A8 - Presenter: Lisa Cole, Vanessa Ironside & Michelle Tsui-Woods, York University (Various Sectors)

The k2i academy at the Lassonde School of Engineering was launched in June 2020 with a mission to create an ecosystem of diverse partners, committed to dismantling system barriers to opportunity for underrepresented students in STEM. A9 - Presenter:  Matt Kovacs HCDSB (General)

During this session attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the many benefits of esports and its future in schools.   They will also have the opportunity to participate in a live demonstration.  

A10 - Presenter:  Rottena Sparks, Skilled Trades Ontario (General)

Participants in this workshop will learn about the Province's New Skilled Trades Organization and the support that it offers.  The team will also provide insight into the Apprenticeship Pathway.   There will be time for Q & A. 

A11 - Presenter:  Joanna Bull, YRDSB (General)

Expand your toolkit of inclusion and reflection strategies that provide student choice and voice while fostering equity and well-being.

C1 - Presenters: Nigel Carlisle, Shaunna MacQuarrie, UCDSB & Agscape (Elementary & Secondary)(Manufacturing, Computer Studies & Hospitality)

Join the 2022 Award for Teaching Excellence in Agriculture and Food Education Recipient Nigel Carlisle and Shaunna MacQuarrie from AgScape Ontario as they invite you to explore the worlds of food and technology by sharing how to integrate AgScape's Teacher Ambassador Program and Lego Robotics into your classroom. This is a great cross-curricular, hands-on activity that brings industry partners, coding and agriculture together.  

C2 - Presenters:  Bill Fetter GDSB (General)

This workshop will explore the design considerations and processes of creating an inclusive, safe & productive educational space for student-centered learning. 

C3 - Presenter: Jennifer Asen, Jennifer Naturals (Hairstyling)

A high-level introduction to Textured Hair Professionals. This Master Class, Textured Hair 101 delivers an overview of textured hair diversity to instructors. Our course aims to provide facilitators with a basic understanding of the different texture types, how to identify them, common hair services per texture type, how to communicate with textured people and, our signature offering, The 6 Pillars. Our course content in its entirety will allow for instructors to feel more comfortable with diverse hair types and provide them with the much needed support necessary to deliver a more robust program targeted at the diversity of textured hair of all types. 

C4 - Presenters: Sudeshna Dutta & Elena Lopez, Ministry of Education (Secondary)

Data is fun! Join us for a session where we will model how you can use Specialist High Skills Major Data to engage in board and school planning. We will discuss how to position this data with administrators, trustees and community partners to advertise and advocate for your technological education and SHSM programs.  

C5 - Presenter: Trent Durocher, GECDSB (Construction)

Explore the opportunities and additional training that we have gained through our partnership with the Carpenters' Union, including benefits to the students and Union. Discuss how to create these partnerships with other locals across the province. Examine our processes for choosing students, developing course content and creating staff timetables. 

C6 - Presenter: Marc Dubeau, OCDSB (Communications Technology, Computer Technology)

Learning to Create an Environment from the Ground Up using Quixel Bridge and Unreal Engine.   To teach and understand many of the features built into Unreal Engine, it is helpful for students to learn to build environments from the ground up.   In this tutorial students will begin with a blank scene and learn how to add all the necessary lighting elements to create a scene.  Students will learn how to create a landscape from scratch as well as how to model their beginner landscape.    Once students have built the basics, they will learn to install Quixel Bridge and link their account to Unreal Engine.  

C7 - Presenter: Richard Filion, CSCDEO (French)

Présentation des trousses de Micro:Bits, des activités réalisées avec les enseignants et de différents problèmes encourus avec l'utilisation des Micro:Bits. Nous allons apprendre à résoudre des problèmes de codage et de connexions. 

C8 - Presenters:  William Neal & John Hobbins, First Robotics (Elementary & Secondary)

FIRST Robotics Canada offers impactful and transformative programs for K-12 students. Interdisciplinary, hands-on, project based learning meets character building and community connections all while supercharging the curriculum. The world's foremost high school STEM experience; coding in the classroom; grants; mentors; SHSM - FIRST has it all!

C9 - Presenter: Farhana Moshira OCDSB, Joachim Vallentin HWDSB, Gillian Olohan CTAO (General)

This workshop will provide an overview and resources related to the different ways to support students on their journey after high school into the skilled trades and technology related careers. 

C10 - Presenter:  Industry Partner & Education Partner (Transportation)

This workshop will feature new trends in the automotive industry and resources to educate your students and prepare them for the careers of the future.

There are limited spaces and opportunities taking place on Saturday and the start times and length depends on the session.  Please only sign up if you are sure you will be able to attend.  We want to ensure that these workshops are at capacity during delivery to value the time of the presenters and the individuals wanting to improve their skills through the valuable training being offered. 

E1 Presenter: Canadian Welding Bureau / Fanshawe College

This hands-on welding workshop provides Technological Educators with an opportunity to learn and practice your welding skills for the classroom.  Led by welding professionals, this workshop will provide you the opportunity to ask those burning questions and improve your technique.  Participants will also learn about resources available to support their welding shops and to encourage students to pursue careers in this field. 

Safety: Work boots and long pants are required.   PPE will be provided.

E2 Presenter: Carpenter's Union Local 1946

The Carpenters' Union will be offering hands-on training at the Local 1946 Training Centre. This Carpenters Training course will build a project using common woodshop machines, going over best practices and safety concerns as the project is completed.  There will be information on the skills required to start a career in carpentry, and how to become a successful apprentice. Representatives from several Carpenters' Union locals will discuss opportunities for apprenticeships across Ontario.

E3 Presenter: Niagara College Motive Power Team

Explore EV safety, maintenance, charging systems, emerging technology and more during a lecture with our very own Wayne Toth, Program Coordinator for Niagara College’s Motive Power program. Following the lecture, registrants will have the opportunity to participate in four separate rotating workshops hosted by our faculty in the lot outside. This will include a hands-on look at 4 of our own EV’s, Battery Rebuilding, and additional training aids.

E4 Presenter: Hospitality and Tourism Training, Fanshawe College

In this hands-on workshop, participants will develop culinary skills they can bring to the classroom.  Learn in Fanshawe's state-of-the-art teaching kitchens and student-run restaurant its downtown campus, and gain insight into the evolving hospitality and tourism industry.

E5 Presenter: Horticulture Technician Workshop, Fanshawe College

Learn about Fanshawe's hundred-acre "living lab" at its London Campus and the A.M. Cuddy Garden near Strathroy, which houses a remarkable collection of rare and endangered plants, and is recognized as a botanical garden by Botanic Gardens Conservation International.  Participants will also complete a hands-on activity they can bring back to the classroom.

E6 Presenter: Communications Technology Workshop, Fanshawe College

This hands-on workshop will help you to develop skills in virtual and augmented reality, and cover topics related to interactive media, 2D and 3D design, interface development, and the professional, technical and design skills required for students to find success in the digital media workplace.

Through hands-on activities and case study analyses, you will enhance your information security understanding.  Explore topics including information security, ethics, network management/analysis, programming and scripting, operating systems, and database management.
